Peace and security

Set in a key geopolitical spot, Romania protects the border of NATO and the European Union and has been one of the most active contributors to EU, NATO, OSCE and UN missions. Security system reform was one of the priorities of Euro-Atlantic accession and integration and it was probably the most successful in achieving fundamental transformation. Special focus was placed on demilitarisation of the police, civilian oversight of the army and purging of force institutions of political control, as well as the extensive reorganisation of the responsible public institutions in the field.

Romanian expertise is not limited to internal reform. Romanian experts are constantly deployed in peacekeeping operations, from Afghanistan and the Congo to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, independently or as part of national contingents. Romania is currently also among the main contributors (with both personnel and equipment) to the EU civilian crisis management operations. With a booming IT industry, the Romanian state has high capabilities and expertise in cyber security and the security industry has averaged 10% annual growth the past several years, generating a market value of over $600 million in 2015, and the trend is expected to continue in the years to come.

You are welcome to explore Romanian expertise in this field. Be it in terms of pure transfer of expertise, academic contributions or international projects, our experts have valuable stories and important lessons to share.
